In 1953, Bob and friend Warren St. George took a 9,000 mile vacation riding passenger trains west across Canada, down the west coast, and back east across the United States by way of Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Grand Junction, Denver, Chicago, Cincinnati, Roanoke Va., Washington D.C. and New York. The trip fueled his interest in travel and led to many more trips across the country. Here is the Canadian Pacific's "Mountaineer" at Banff in Alberta, Canada. Photograph by Robert A. Buck.
